Buran Ghati approach through Pabbar Valley

Deep Pabbar to Sangla wall.

Six days through the least-visited high pass in our portfolio. Wide alpine meadows, a glacial lake at 4,260m, and a near-vertical exit into Sangla Valley that defines the whole route. The approach is gradual. The finale is not.

Day by Day

Through dense cedar and oak above the Pabbar river. The valley is broad here and the sound of water constant. Dayara meadow opens without warning — a wide, flat camp that makes the steep terrain above feel far away.

Forest Trail River Valley

The climb is steady. Litham arrives where the river bends sharply — a waterfall off to the left, the first snowfield in view above. The scale of what comes next starts to register here in a way it didn't on Day 1.

Steady Climb Meadow Camp

A rest day with a walk to Chandranahan Lake at 4,260m. The water is cold and blue and perfectly still. Most of the group is quiet on the way back. Camp again at Litham — the altitude tomorrow will feel earned.

Rest Day High-Altitude Lake

Short in distance, significant in altitude. The vegetation thins rapidly — by Dhunda you're above the treeline entirely, camped at the foot of the pass. The wall above is visible. There's nothing gradual about what's coming.

High Altitude Above Treeline

The descent is what Buran is known for — roped sections, near-vertical snow, and the sudden arrival in Sangla Valley. On one side is the Pabbar Valley. An hour of ropes later, you're in Kinnaur. The two feel nothing alike.

Summit Day Roped Descent

An easy morning walk through Sangla Valley to the road head. The landscape is entirely changed from where the week began. Most people notice the contrast only once they're already driving away.

Final Descent Valley Walk

What to know

Physical prep

Comfortable on steep terrain with a 7–8 kg pack. The roped descent on Day 5 demands sure footing — not technical, but unforgiving.

What to bring

Layers, a waterproof shell, and trekking poles. For the roped descent, non-slip footwear matters more than anywhere else we run. Full kit list sent after first conversation.

Who you'll walk with

Maximum twelve. Our average is eight. We don't mix groups without asking first. Your guide has led this specific pass for years.

Permits and paperwork

All forest and state permits handled by us. No paperwork on your end. We'll confirm everything in writing before departure.
